What is known as Prestashop?

The Prestashop e-commerce platform has been created so that both SMEs and large multinational companies can sell their products online.

Prestashop 1.7

This online sales platform has released its new version 1.7, so any user can now manually install prestashop on ProfesionalHosting. This e-commerce platform is ideal for new businesses or for remodeling projects that have become obsolete. Since you can install it on your own hosting without too many complications by following the guide we have prepared for you here.

Manual guide to install the platform

Install the latest version of Prestashop in just a few minutes, start this shopping cart on your Hosting step by step:

1. The first thing you must do if you want to install Prestashop 1.7 is download the application from its own website: www.prestashop.com. There you will see a link, in a fairly visual way, where the word "download" will invite you to start the process.

Very important: the platform asks you to fill out the form that appears, in order to access the download, but actually it is not necessary to fill in any data, since the application will be downloaded to your computer anyway.

2. As soon as the process starts, a window with the download file will open on your computer screen, you just have to accept it. When you check that the download has finished, the next step will be to access the hosting administration panel and create your own Database (name, user and password, the latter alphanumeric and if possible with special characters to increase security).

Very important: keep all this data safe because you will need it for the installation process.

3. At this point, the next action is pure mechanics. You must take the zip file downloaded from the prestashop website), which you have downloaded to your PC, and upload it to your server (Hosting). The normal thing is to do it in the root directory of the store. This can be done in several ways: from FTP or from cPanel (we go to Files, select File Manager and, from the option in the top menu, click the upload button). Once the file has been uploaded, it must be decompressed, the easiest way is to do it from the Extract tool that you will find at the top of the File Manager.

Very important: all versions of Prestashop offer a step-by-step installation guide included in a file within the download.

4. After uploading this new version to your server, the next step is to run the install file that you will find in the application, by visiting the execution link. Example: http://www.example.com/install/. After this step, the assistant for the installation of the system itself will be activated. With this, a url for the location of the application on your own server will be created and, from this point on, it will be the same assistant that will guide you so that you can complete the installation.

Very important: be very careful when decompressing the Zip file, as it can generate several files with incorrect encodings, such as: index.php with permissions 666, folders with permissions 700 or Install_PrestaShop.html with permissions 666.

The correct permissions for prestashop files are 755 for folders and 644 for files.

Installation assistance for Prestashop 1.7 on your server

After having reached this point, now is the time to activate the application that is already installed on your local server.

- First, a screen will appear giving you the option to choose the language you want to work in Prestashop 1.7. We understand perfectly that you may be surprised by the number of languages to choose from.

- After this step, you will check if the application gives an error or not. If it were the case that this version gives an error, you must check if the installation has any incompatibility with your server. On the contrary, if everything is correct, the software will be installed without problems.

- Following the installation process, the next step will be to let yourself be guided by the assistant. A new screen will request that you insert the information you created in the Database (name, user and password).

- If you have reached this point, it is because you have completed all the previous steps positively. At this point you will see how the installation of Prestashop 1.7 will be carried out automatically. You know that these processes usually take time, so we recommend that you be patient.

- When the installation process has finished, you must rename the installation file itself that you will find within the general installation file of the application and delete the install directory.

With this action you will guarantee the security of the system itself and you must also rename the admin folder, which will be the one you have to access via url to be able to connect to the Administration Panel of your Prestashop Online Store.
