What is and what is the Plesk file manager for?

It is a native tool of Plesk. Thanks to this tool, we can manage Plesk files and directories very easily, simply and efficiently.

Where do we find the Plesk file manager?

Once we enter Plesk in the domain we want to manage, we will see the following options:

From this window we can see the Plesk file manager

and if we access it, we will find the following:

How do the different options of this tool work?

Just by entering, if we are already familiar with other file managers, it will be very intuitive for us,

we will see the different options

First we must differentiate the different areas, on the left side we will see the directory tree from where we can open different folders and move between them

we can have different folders open even if we are not inside them and this can be very useful for us

Then we are going to identify a second area (top bar) where we will have the different options that the tool allows us to perform

In this menu we have different options:

Upload: it serves us to upload a file from our computer to the server

New: this option has 2 options, the first to create a file on the server, it will ask us for the name

and a second option to create a folder on the server and also by clicking on this option it asks us for the name of the folder

Copy: copy is used to copy a file or folder within the server (to another path)

first we must mark what we want to copy and then click on copy, choose the path and accept. there is a box below in case we want to replace existing files if the names exist in the destination path

Move: as its name indicates, it is about moving the folder to a different path within the same server, it is similar to the previous option but does not leave a copy in the path of the source of the marked file or directory to move

Delete: deletes the marked file or directory, before deleting it asks us if we are sure of the operation

Extract Files: Plesk can compress and decompress files in zip, with this option and after marking a .zip file it will start the decompression of the file

Add to compressed file: once the file/s or/and directory/s we want to compress have been marked, by marking this option, Plesk will ask us for a name, which it will put to the .zip file that when we click accept it will work to generate it

more: within more there are 2 options, calculate size and change date

calculate size: as its name indicates, it will show us the weight of what is marked, we can mark several folders and/or files at the same time

change date: changes the last modification date of the file to the current date, this is useful for incremental backups

and finally we have the screen of directories and files

in this area we can see the following options in a list with the folders and files and the option to mark them one by one or all (to be able to work with the operations seen above)

Modification: It shows us the last modification of the file / folder

Size: Size of the file or folder

* note the size of the folder shows how much the folder weighs but not the content it has inside

Permissions: Shows the permissions of the files and folders in linux RWX format

User: The owner user of the file or directory

Group: Shows the group with permissions on the file or directory

depending on the version of Plesk installed on the server, it will be seen in this or another way and these or other options will be available

it is also worth noting that if we have permission we can modify the contents of the files
