Plesk, like with other CMS and applications, allows us to install them directly from the server. In this guide, we will show you how to install the latest version of Joomla!. To do this, we first need to enter our Plesk panel. Then, we access our subscription from Subscriptions and click on the subscription where we want to install Joomla!.

Upon entering, we will have a series of options, one of which is Applications. We click on it to enter and see the applications available in Plesk.

Once inside this option, by default, it shows us the installed applications. Since we don't have any applications installed, it shows 3 to install: WordPress, Joomla!, and Drupal. We click on the arrow to the right of Install for Joomla!, and in the dropdown, we select Custom installation. This way we can modify the data with which Joomla! will be installed. By default, the latest version of Joomla! is installed in the Plesk repositories.

After clicking on Custom installation, it will start downloading the application to the server, usually taking less than 30 seconds. After this, a notice appears for us to accept the terms and the License Agreement. We click on I accept the terms of the License Agreement and then click on Next to continue with the installation.

After accepting the terms, we will see a series of options to indicate in our installation, and we will have to fill them in with the data we want. In the first section, it indicates the following fields:

  • Specify the location where this web application should be installed: if we want to install it in the root of the domain, we leave it blank. If it is in a subfolder, we indicate the name of the folder.

  • Automatically update this application when updates are available: this option allows Plesk to automatically update the application, although we do not recommend it since some extensions or themes may not be compatible with the new versions and would cause problems in its installation.

  • Administrative access to the application: we will normally indicate the first option, to put in the username and password for administrative access ourselves.

In the next section, in Main Configuration, it allows us to indicate several things in the installation. We will usually leave everything as it is, only modifying the Site Name and the administrator's email.

  • Administrator email: we indicate the email that the site administrator will have.

  • Site Name: we put the name of the site. It is the one that will appear as the title in the store.

  • Install Sample Data: we can install sample data in our Joomla! if we mark the Yes option.

  • Default site language: we indicate the default language of our site.

  • Database server: it will always be localhost:3306

  • Database name: we indicate the name of the database. We can put one that is already created or a new name, and it will create the database.

  • Table prefix: we indicate the prefix of the tables. If we don't put anything, it will randomly put a prefix.

  • Database user name: we indicate the user of the database. It can be created or we put a new one that will create it.

  • Database user password: we indicate the user's password. We can leave it blank, and it will generate one randomly.

  • Confirm password: we indicate the user's password again.

After entering all this data, we click on the Install button, and the installation of Joomla! will begin. After a few seconds, the installation process will finish, and we will have our Joomla! installed on our domain.
Additionally, it allows us to enter directly from Plesk by entering the subscription where we have the application installed.
